391: I finally met the boy


Subtitles:

Kırmızı bisikletli çocukla sonunda tanıştım.
= I finally met the boy with the red bike.  

Vocabulary:

kırmızı [= red]

bisiklet [= bicycle; bike]

bisikletli [= with the bike]

Language Tip:
The suffix [-li] added to the noun “bisiklet” gives the meaning of “with; in”. There are four variants that are used to convey this meaning: [-li, -lı, -lu, -lü].
So, “bisikletli çocuk” means [= the boy with/in the bicycle].

Look at the following example:
Let’s say you want to say: “the woman in the hat”, that is, the woman who has the hat. The words we are going to need to say this in Turkish will be:

woman [= kadın]
hat [= şapka]

Then we’ll need one of the four variants mentioned above to add to the word “hat”, depending on the rules of vowel harmony. The sentence we are looking for will be:
 şapkalı kadın [= the woman in the hat]

çocuk [= boy; child; kid]

çocukla [= with the boy]

sonunda [= at last; in the end; finally]

tanıştım [= I met]
past simple from “tanışmak” [= to meet]

Language Tip:
The verb “tanışmak” requires the addition of either “le” or “la” to the object, that is the person you meet. That is why in the sentence above, it reads as “çocukla tanıştım”. The dictionary form of the verb is shown as follows:
ile tanışmak” [= be acquainted with]

I would like to meet you [= seninle tanışmak istiyorum]
