377: Calm down! Nothing is going on!

Subtitles:

Ne oluyor? Ne oluyor?
= What’s happening? What’s the matter?

Sakin ol, Gülfem. Birşey olmuyor!
= Calm down, Gülfem. Nothing is going on!

Gülfem Sipahi siz misiniz?
= Are you Gülfem Sipahi?

Evet.
= Yes.

Kimlik, lütfen.
= I.D. please.

Tabii, buyrun.
= Sure, here you are.

Vocabulary:

ne? [= what?]

oluyor [= happening; going on]
Present continuous from “olmak” [= to be; to become; to happen]

ne oluyor? [= what’s going on?; what’s happening?; what’s up?]

Tip:
Note that the Turks usually drop out the final “-r” from verbs when they speak. If you listen carefully, you’ll hear “N'oluyo?” instead of the written form “Ne oluyor?”.

sakin ol [= calm down; be quiet; take it easy; relax]

Tip:
The expression “sakin ol” is made up of the adjective “sakin” [= quiet; calm] + the imperative form of “olmak” [= to be; to become].

birşey [= something; nothing]

olmuyor [= not happening; not going on]
present continuous tense (negative) from “olmak” [= to be; to become; to happen]

siz [= you]
This pronoun can refer to a group of people [= all of you] or to epxress the formal “you”. The informal “you” is [= sen].

misiniz? [= Question Particle to form yes/no questions]

siz misiniz? [= is it you?; are you?]

Tip:

evet [= yes]

kimlik [= identity card (I.D.)]
