232: Sorry for your loss!

Size Allah'tan sabır diliyorum. Başınız sağolsun!
= May God give you patience. Sorry for your loss!

*diliyorum [from dilemek= to wish; to apologise; to condole]

Cultural Tip:
"Size Allah'tan sabır diliyorum. Başınız sağolsun!" is the common way in Turkish of wishing someone condolences when they are grieving the loss of a loved one.

"Başınız sağolsun" literally means "May your head stay healthy" [baş: head], but can be more adequately translated as "Sorry for your loss; Please accept my sympathy for your loss; My condolences to you".

Another shorter version of "Size Allah'tan sabır diliyorum" is "Allah sabır versin".

Video is from the Turkish Drama "Muhteşem Yüzyıl
English Title: "Magnificent Century"
